Learn about the Post Settlement Governance Entity

What is the Post Settlement Governance Entity?

The Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) is a legal organisation created by a claimant group to oversee and manage their settlement assets. The purpose of the PSGE is:

  • To guarantee responsible and effective management of the settlement assets

  • To safeguard the long-term benefits of the settlement for future generations

  • PSGEs act as a representative for the claimant group (our uri)

What does our proposed structure look like?

The PSGE structure will include representatives tasked with managing the assets. Their key responsibilities encompass the following:

  • Adhering to Trust Terms

  • Acting in the best interests of the beneficiaries

  • Maintaining accurate records

  • Acting with impartiality

  • Ensuring accountability and transparency

  • Complying with laws and regulations

The representatives will be elected by our four hapū

How will the PSGE function?

We envision the PSGE operating independently of the organisational structure. It will function as a vessel to receive and allocate settlement assets to the tari, who will subsequently manage taxes, employee salaries, and resource planning

What have we agreed upon so far?

The PSGE should work in conjunction with existing frameworks, ensuring it is not merely a duplication but is specifically designed to meet the distinct needs of Waikaremoana, with leadership provided by the hapū, which holds authority over the PSGE trustees.

How will our PSGE be represented?

The PSGE representatives will be elected by the four hapū - Te Waimako, Te Kūha, Te Pūtere and Ngatapa ensuring decision making mana rests with our hapū

When will we make decisions about the PSGE?

  • Before voting on our representatives, we have to vote on whether we accept the proposed PSGE structure

  • Voting information will be made available as soon as we are ready

  • All registered uri will have a chance to vote on both the PSGE structure and the PSGE representatives

Can I put my name forward to be a representative on the PSGE?

We're still finalising the nomination, election and voting process, and once confirmed, we’ll share how you can nominate candidates for the PSGE
